We have been informed by PG&E that most of the core campus will be without power starting at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, part of the utility’s plans to shut off power in most Bay Area counties over the next few days to guard against fire dangers that may accompany anticipated high winds.

Each year more than 25 million people participate in Great ShakeOut earthquake drills worldwide, including our campus community here at UC Berkeley. Because the Bay Area is prone to earthquakes, it is vital that our campus community know how to protect themselves and others during earthquakes.

David Sorrell and the Berkeley Moves! Team were honored with the second annual Seamless Bay Area Award, which recognizes someone who goes above and beyond the normal call of duty to advocate for a seamless transit system throughout the region. David and his team help more than 50,000 UC Berkeley students better utilize transit options when they start at Cal and plan their trips around the Bay.

A location change was recently announced for Berkeley’s new employee onboarding sessions conducted by Berkeley Regional Services (BRS). Currently, these onboarding sessions are offered each week at 457 Evans Hall. Effective September 30, 2019, all orientation sessions will now be conducted in room 1B (on the ground floor) at University Hall.

UCPath and UCPath Online will be unavailable to all employees, including faculty, staff and student employees for a few short periods while our sister UC campuses come on board with UCPath. During these periods, UCPath Online will be unavailable for viewing paychecks, leave accruals, tax information, and other self-service functions. Please plan to access UCPath Online before or after these periods. Note: Although UCPath will not be accessible, paychecks will be issued on the regular biweekly and month cycles.

Associate Dean and Professor Phil Stark has been appointed Interim Regional Associate Dean of the the ChaMPS Service Region. Professor Stark is Associate Dean of the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and a Professor of Statistics, a department in which he has served since 1988. Stark succeeds Professor Ron Cohen, who stepped down as Regional Associate Dean of the ChaMPS Region after advocating for, designing, and championing the conversion from Campus Shared Services to Berkeley Regional Services.

What began as a conceptual conversation two years ago about how to improve administrative support services today has six staffed regional teams, academic and administrative leaders, a functioning governance structure, and a focus on success. Although a considerable amount of work has already occurred, the real work begins now as regional service teams and leaders set out to understand the unique service needs and opportunities in their regions.

Lori Tannyhill has been named the Regional Director for Region Six.
Lori spent the early part of her career at UC Berkeley in operations management at International House and then spent 15 years with Deloitte Services as its West Region Business Advisor, National Meeting Services. In that role, Lori planned and executed more than 150 events per year and was the primary service contact for 14 Managing Partners.

Julia Arno has been named the Regional Director of the Professional Schools regions. Julia brings more than 12 years of management experience in supporting research and sponsored programs including seven years as Director and Interim Executive Director of the Contracts and Grants at the Research Grant Program Office at UC Office of the President. Prior to joining UCOP, Julia served as Director of research and sponsored program offices at both Sonoma State University and Domincan University of California in San Rafael.

The position of ADA/Section 504 Compliance Officer evinces UC Berkeley’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive and equitable campus in regards to disability. A faculty/staff search committee conducted a nationwide search for candidates and was thrilled to find a truly stellar candidate.
